03 · How we work

Four phases. No slides.

A typical engagement runs twelve to sixteen weeks, ending with you operating the work yourself.

01Weeks 1–2

Listen

We learn the ground first: your customer, your operators, the existing tools, the unspoken rules of the category. No deliverables until we agree on what we are actually building.

02Weeks 3–5

Design

Brand system, information architecture, and product wireframes done together. Structure before style. We don't decorate what we haven't framed.

03Weeks 6–12

Build

Production code, not handoff specs. We ship working software on the same stack you'll run forever. Typically Next.js, Postgres, and the boring choices that age well.

04Weeks 13+

Operate

Brand guidelines, design tokens, runbook, and a 90-day post-launch retainer. We're done when you can extend the work without us in the room.

05 · Story

The studio we couldn't find, so we built.

Jersey Proper started in 2024 because real businesses in New Jersey kept hiring the wrong studios. The brand shops didn't understand product. The product shops didn't understand operations. And the agencies that claimed both made decks, not software.

We are a small studio, founders and operators mostly, that designs brand, builds systems, and ships production code under one roof. Properly means we get the structure right before the surface, and we don't hand off work we wouldn't ship ourselves.
